Staff Geologist needed at Slate Geotechnical Consultants

Our Staff Geologists will get exposure to projects involving earthquake-induced geologic hazard assessments such as landsliding, surface fault rupture, liquefaction triggering, earthquake hazard (PSHA and DSHA) evaluations, site/geologic reconnaissance, and geotechnical subsurface investigations.

Our work at Slate is heavily focused on providing earthquake engineering solutions to a diverse list of clients and projects. For a geologist, that often means providing a geologic context that forms the basis for our investigations and analyses.

We are looking for a geologist that will be a great fit for both field and office tasks. Field assignments might include site reconnaissance, mapping of geologic materials or geomorphic features, and subsurface investigations. Office assignments can include collection and summarization of background information, data evaluation, and report preparation. Report preparation itself often requires writing summary descriptions of the geologic, tectonic, and seismic setting for a site, as well as creation of figures (geologic maps and sections, regional seismicity maps, etc.), tables, and other supporting documents like boring logs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • 0-3 Years experience in geotechnical engineering consulting or similar industry
  • M.S. in Geosciences, Earth Sciences, or similar
  • Valid driver’s license
  • ArcMap – Moderate to Advanced user
  • Adobe Illustrator – Moderate to Advanced user
  • Exposure to computer modeling languages (e.g., MATLAB, R, Python)
  • Ability to clearly communicate geologic concepts both verbally and written
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments under rigid schedule and budget constraints
  • Ability to work in a collaborative setting with engaging co-workers and clients
