San Mateo County Environmental Health seeking Haz Mat Specialist

San Mateo County Environmental Health is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Hazardous Materials Specialist II/III-Groundwater Protection Program.

The current vacancy is in the Groundwater Protection Program (GPP) of the Environmental Health Services Division located in the city of San Mateo. Groundwater Protection Program staff perform regulatory case management for oversight of corrective action at both leaking underground fuel tank (LUFT) cases and other contaminated soil, soil vapor, and groundwater cases within the County. This case management includes review and technical evaluation of work plans and reports for site characterization and cleanup, writing regulatory directives for required work based on review of work plans and reports, observing field activities of required corrective action work, working with responsible parties and consultants in ensuring appropriate and timely action toward completing corrective action, and documentation of all work in the State’s Geotracker database.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in site remediation, a thorough knowledge of State regulations and guidelines applicable to LUFT and other corrective actions, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. SALARY
Level II:  $6,616 – $8,270/month
Level III:  $7,022 – $8,774/month
