Register today for NOA Technical Working Group Meeting

Development of a Naturally Occurring Asbestos Training Course

Discussion led by: Mark Bailey, PG of AEG’s Naturally Occurring Asbestos Technical Working Group

Meeting Topic – As an increasing number of Naturally Occurring Asbestos sites are identified and worked on in California, an awareness of the complexity of such sites has developed. Many involved in NOA investigations have come to the conclusion that the simple fact of being a Professional Geologist alone is an insufficient skillset to adequately inspect and evaluate such sites. This has led to a movement among various parties to request AEG develop and offer a course on this topic specifically for geologists to increase their knowledge of NOA issues and the latest state-of-the-art methods being applied to address this complex hazard. The AEG NOA Technical Working Group is exploring ways to respond to this need for increased training.

A presentation will be given by Mark Bailey, PG, AEG NOA Technical Working Group Co-Chairperson, outlining potential topics to be addressed in a potential NOA training course including:

o          Geology of NOA in California

o          NOA Mineralogy including “regulated” and “un-regulated” NOA

o          Regulations related to NOA

o          Protecting yourself and others from NOA hazards

o          Performing a NOA geologic investigation

o          NOA sample collection protocols including use of the incremental sample method (ISM)

o          NOA laboratory analytical test methods

o          What to include in a NOA inspection report

o          Assisting other consultants and regulators involved at a NOA site

After the presentation, the meeting will be opened to attendees to discuss the advisability of offering such a course and course content. We look forward to your participation.
